Project Team

The South Corridor Study is led by GNRC in coordination with a Steering Committee and Technical Committee comprised of local officials and representatives from various communities and agencies with a vested interest in the corridor. A consultant team led by WSP is providing support to the effort.

Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC)

GNRC is one of nine regional development districts established by the General Assembly under the Tennessee Development District Act of 1965. GNRC, which operates as a council of governments (COG), represents 13 counties and 52 cities in Middle Tennessee. Its purpose is to assist local communities and state agencies in the development of plans and programs that guide growth and development in the most desirable, efficient, and cost-effective manner, while ensuring the continued long-term livability of the region. In carrying out its mission, GNRC convenes elected leadership and local practitioners to brainstorm strategies for improving quality of life; facilitates cooperative policy making in order to prioritize state and federal investments into area social services and public infrastructure; and provides a public forum for Middle Tennesseans to shape regional decisions.

Nashville Area MPO

GNRC is serves as the administrator of the federally-required Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Nashville Area in accordance with federal laws and regulations. The MPO leads the development of the region's long-range transportation plan and short-range transportation improvement program and contributes to ongoing conversations about issues such as land use, economic development, the environment, safety and security, and public health. The MPO fulfills federal transportation planning requirements to ensure TDOT, local governments, and transit agencies remain eligible for federal transportation grants aimed at improving area roadways and transit systems. MPO policies, plans, and programs are adopted by the Transportation Policy Board which convenes city and county mayors with local, state, and federal transportation officials.

WeGo Public Transit

WeGo Public Transit operates ten regional bus routes between downtown Nashville and the following cities: Clarksville, Dickson, Franklin, Gallatin, Hendersonville, Joelton, La Vergne, Murfreesboro, Smyrna, Springfield, Spring Hill, and Thompson's Station. In addition, WeGo’s rideshare program organizes vanpools and carpools for commuters throughout Middle Tennessee. The WeGo also operates the Music City Star regional rail.

Study Steering Committee

The Steering Committee provides guidance for the public outreach and engagement of the larger community, the need and purpose for the project, the alternatives to be studied, and the evaluation criteria that will be used (including cost) to evaluate alternatives.

Technical Committee

The Technical Committee serves in an advisory capacity throughout the duration of the study. This committee is comprised of representatives from communities along the corridor, TDOT, chambers of commerce, transit agencies, and other stakeholders with a vested interest and capacity to provide feedback related to project approach, analysis, data, and public outreach and engagement along the corridor.
